FIREWISE PROGRAM

The Firewise USA® program provides a collaborative framework for neighbors to reduce wildfire risks at the local level. The national recognition program’s annual criteria is designed to empower and engage residents living in wildfire prone areas with a plan and actions that can increase their home’s chances of surviving a wildfire; while also making it safer for firefighters.

Benefits

  • Participation is voluntary.
  • Community wildfire risk can be reduced by neighbors working together.
  • Increases good will with first responders, providing safer access.
  • Increases community communication, collaboration and emergency preparedness.
  • Potential consideration by home insurance companies (USAA and Mercury).
  • Potential access to grant money.

What You Can Do

Being part of a recognized Firewise USA® community is reporting the ongoing work residents complete each year to reduce their wildfire risks, while addressing the areas identified in the community wildfire risk assessment.  Every year, the community must submit an annual renewal to maintain their “Firewise USA® Status” You can help by providing us information on what you've done to make your property Firewise.
